Three Traditions To Create Cherished Memories To Celebrate Your Baby's First Christmas
If the best gift possible for your new child arrived just weeks before Christmas, you're most likely too worn-out to even think about holiday celebrations. But you needn't let the excitement to weaken your spirit. Instead, you and your baby can celebrate his or her first Christmas in one of these four possible ways that won't wear you out.
1. Baby's first Christmas tree. Okay, so maybe you won't be going out into the wilds to chop a fresh tree this year. Baby's first Christmas tree can still be special, and this one will not break the bank or your back.
Select an artificial, table-top tree and decorate with newborn items. Brightly painted rattles, binkies, child themed Christmas ball ornaments, and teething rings give a celebratory feel and can be put to great use later. Top it off with a diaper angel. To construct, take a fabric diaper, pack with a tiny handful of cotton balls for the head, bunch up cloth together beneath the head, and tie with a cheerful bow of green and red coiled ribbon. Using a yellow pipe cleaner intended for the halo, shape a four- to five-inch section into a loop and poke the left over straight piece through top of diaper cloth, securing to angel.
Once the celebration is finished this year, the tiny Christmas tree can be the foundation for a lifelong family tradition. Put the tree up every year and, as your youngster grows, let her choose how to decorate it.
2. Wrapped in swaddling clothes. If your house of worship holds a Christmas program or indoor live nativity, volunteer to supply the "babe wrapped in swaddling clothes," along including Mary and Joseph. A real baby adds depth to your church family's Christmas celebration and will create a memorable experience for your relatives, too, with little effort required on your part.
Not quite up to going out? Recreate the scene of that first Christmas in miniature, of course , in your own home. If possible, have a family member video or photograph your portrayal to add to baby's scrapbook.
Keep the religious sense alive each year by making the family nativity a Christmas tradition. Bring the relations together at the start of the holiday season and experience the video together to set the tone for your Christmas celebrations.
3. Enjoy the eve. Enjoying Christmas Eve together at home allows you to concentrate on the quieter elements of the celebration and what really matters. Hang a stocking with care and fill it with Christmas balls for every member of the family. Place the family stocking first on next year's list of important traditions by honoring everyone with a Christmas ball ornament that reflects something you've experienced together during the previous year.
Before going to bed, recite the Christmas story by candlelight. As Dad reads the story and Mom cuddles baby, you'll experience a special closeness and delight that you'll want to repeat again and again.
Consequently, if the customary holiday havoc has you thinking your newly expanded family will have to put the Christmas celebration on hold, think again. And make your newborn's first Christmas one you'll all want to remember for years to come.
