2 Secrets On How To Get Your Golf Ball Clear Of That Thick Rough

It is a great feeling to get into your own Club Car golf cart or one of the club's cheap golf carts (like their Bag Boy golf carts) with your friend and family and head off for a round of golf.

It would also be nice, if a little boring, if you were able to keep your golf on the fairway and out of the bunkers and rough all the way to the green however in the real world that does not happen even for the best of professional golfers.

All of us hit the odd shot, or in a few cases a lot of shots, wide of the fairway and into the rough or into a bunker but the real problem arises when your ball winds up in the heavy rough with grass coming up to your knees. In this case many golfers take several 'hacks' to get their ball out and the hole becomes a total disaster.

However, anybody who has ever seen the professionals in action will know that this does not have to be a disaster. So, what is their secret to success?

There are 2 secrets the first of which applies when your ball is in the heavy rough but is still a long way from the green and the second applies whenever your ball is reasonably close to the putting green.

If you are still some distance from the flag then your objective should not be to increase distance from your shot but should simply be to get your ball out of the rough and onto the fairway so that you are then in a good position to get yourself onto the green.

In order to achieve this you are going to have to use a a nine iron or wedge, both of which have sufficient weight to tackle the tall grass and adequate loft to get the ball into the air and clear of the grass speedily.

Also, you will need to make sure that the blade of your club is open when you address the ball because the grass will grab the club head as you make your shot. You then have to minimize the amount of grass that you are swinging through which requires you to make a very upright back swing and a strong down swing that is controlled with a very firm left hand. This particular shot is not going to get you a great deal of distance but it will pop your ball up into the air swiftly and carry it forward enough to get you back on the fairway.

If you are quite close to the putting green then this shot will also work exceedingly well but you must take care to ensure that the ball does not then roll clear through the green. Here therefore you must aim to hit two or three inches behind your ball and ensure that your shot has a complete follow through. This is going to produce a shot that is very similar to that used to get your ball out of sand and will not only fire the ball into the air to clear the heavy rough but will also produce a soft landing on the green and so reduce any forward roll.
